Jimmy Yawakia

Jimmy Yawakia is a Zuni fetish carver. His stepfather and brother taught him to carve when he was a child though he spent 23 years working in the medical field. Since then he has transitioned to carving full-time and his work had been exhibited at the Heard Museum and SWAIA Indian Market. Each of Jimmy’s carvings is special to him—he refers to them as his children. Drawing on the meaning of the stone, he evokes the spiritual essence of each animal he carves.
