Humberto Pena
Humberto Pena is part of the Mata Ortiz potting tradition begun in the early 1970's. Mata Ortiz has been transformed into a major pottery-production center thanks to self-taught potters who were inspired by the pottery created by the ancient Mogollon culture at nearby Casas Grandes Pueblo in Northern Chihuahua, Mexico. They use only local materials and traditional methods of forming and firing the beautiful and distinctive pottery.
